After attending Planning for Prosperity, it is clear that a lot of investors are looking for alternatives to the stock and bond market. Most of those investors are looking for passive investment opportunities in the real estate market.
As an author, podcaster and active blogger, I have consistently been studying and writing about the real estate and real estate finance industry for 9 years. All of my research indicates that there are the two opportunities passive investors who want high returns with low risk should have in their portfolio. Both of these investment opportunities are in the financial instruments of the real estate industry (real estate notes & mortgages).

When it comes to investing, everyone looks for an angle – a way to “beat the market” and get sizable returns with little risk.
Unfortunately, with publically traded stocks and bonds, there is never an opportunity to make a purchase at a discount, below market, or at wholesale. Of the almost $7 trillion in IRAs, almost all investors chose to invest in lockstep based on advice from paid advisors, money managers, or through personal research. Finding the right vehicle for investing your IRA funds can be challenging. With the wide range of investment strategies, it’s hard to know which vehicle will provide the highest yield with the lowest amount of risk. Many self-directed IRA owners chose more common investments such as single-family fix and flips or rentals as their main investment vehicle for their IRA. While those provide decent returns, there is still an element of risk and liability because you have to physically own the asset. Not to mention you’re now dealing with tenants, taxes, and the cost of unexpected repairs on the property. While there is nothing wrong with these vehicles of investing, what if I told you there was an easier way to put your IRA money to work that offered security, collateralization, and double digit returns without ever having to own real estate?

When most people think about investing in real estate, being the lender rarely comes to mind. It can be very attractive from a risk reward perspective with typical yields in the upper single digits to low double digits and without the same burden of owning real estate directly. There are two primary ways to source private lending investments. 1. Direct to borrower 2. Partnering or investing with an existing lending company such as ours. I wanted to share five quick tips on what to look for and do if you intend to lend direct to a borrower to help better protect yourself and your investment. Continue reading…

This month we’re featuring our client, Steve Landaal, VP of Portfolio Management. Steve was born and raised in Wisconsin and describes himself as a huge Packers Fan. He resides in Orlando with his bride Darla of 33 years.
Steve shared with us, after losing money in the stock market and, out of desperation, he decided to seek out a better and safer way to grow his retirement savings which was when he learned about self-directed IRAs and the opportunity to find high-yield investments.
